Our 1st trip to Colorado skiing

1989 February - March

When we first read about the ski slopes in Colorado, it looked so much better than those in Europe - plus there was no language barrier , certain nationalities queue jumping and generally thinking they owned the slopes and chairlifts etc. So didn't take much to persuade our ski group of 5 to book there Off to Vail we went to stay in a large condo near the slopes. John was in his element and we left the men to go do their black runs and moguls whilst we went into a class. After a while I managed to kind of catch up with the others even though they all have about 6/7 years head start on me. We had hot mulled wine when we got back to the condo and chilled out in the warm cosy surrounds. One day we cooked the biggest turkey you could imagine - seemed like a good idea at the time.It lasted us 3 days but was lovely. We decided to hire some ski mobiles and the men were fine with them - Jen and I were a bit worried about them as had never driven a motorcycle which they were like. After a few minutes I picked it up and when we got to a huge expanse of snow , I kept up with the men until a tree jumped out in front of me and despite me pushing my foot on the brake for what seemd like ages , I crashed slap bang into it. No-one had told me that the brake was on the handle bars! Got away with scratches and bruises but it did mean I had to ride pillion on John's. Boy, was that an experience - holding on for dear life as he threw me round the narrow mountain tracks.I can't tell you how happy I was when we got to the barbecue area and I could get off. John thought it was hilarious. That was the start to many more returns to Colorado USA I loved being a part of one of the passions in your life John. xxxxxxxx
